About Me
Hi! I'm Ms. Lang-Jackson, but please call me Ms. L.J. This is my second year at Missouri Connections Academy, but I have taught for eighteen years. I homeschooled my four children for over fourteen years before teaching English as a foreign language with VIPKid. Next, I taught high school ELA (English II and III), then 5th & 6th grade social studies and reading. I returned to teaching English language arts last year with MOCA, teaching 8th grade. This year I am excited to go back to the high school level to teach English I and creative writing.
I hold an Associate of Arts in Psychology-Autism, a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, and a Master of Arts in English and Creative Writing. I am certified in two states to teach all subjects in grades 1-6 and English in grades 1-12.
My favorite things to do are read, write, walk and hike in nature, photograph nature and family, and travel to new places with my family. I love learning about plants and animals and discovering the Latin names for them. I am obsessed with etymologies (word roots) and find language and its evolution fascinating! I am working on a historical fiction novel that features a teenage girl protagonist and is set in third-millennium-B.C.E. Mesopotamia during the rise of Sargon the Great. I hope to finish writing the first draft of A War Within in September 2024. My favorite foods include watermelon and mushroom pizza, though I enjoy cooking all sorts of amazing foods for my family. My favorite music is classic rock, and my favorite artists and bands are Tom Petty, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd and Chris Cornell. One of my favorite songs is John Lennon's "Imagine." Though classic rock is my favorite music genre, I enjoy music from various other genres and enjoy hearing about my students' favorite music. One of my current favorite authors is sci-fi novelist A.G. Riddle, and my favorite fiction genres to read at this stage in my life are sci-fi (including dystopian) and historical fiction (especially from the Ancient Roman Empire era and the Bronze Age era). My favorite non-fiction genres include biology (all branches), nature, natural health, parenting, geology/geography/travel, psychology, religion and spiritual, and of course, etymology/linguistics/language.
I am excited to get to know my new students and to connect more deeply with my students I taught last year. I am your advocate, regardless of whether you love English and want to be challenged, you despise it and struggle, or you simply want to try your best and just get through. Everyone matters and has a different role to play using their different strengths. I am here to help!
